The active involvement of our TSA chapter in school based and even community-wide volunteer/fundraising projects is routed in our officers' dedication to providing the club with opportunity for growth. We like to think of our club leaders as beacons for inspiration, which promote tech-involvement and the advantages in working collaboratively on projects.
As a chapter, we are also proud of the diversity that each member brings to the table. Representing students from all 4 grade levels, the TSA chapter boasts talent in an assortment of technical disciplines- ranging from aerospace engineering to computer science and even architecture studies.
Thomas B. Doherty High School was founded in fall the fall of 1975. Thomas Bernard Doherty served as our district superintendent from 1964-1977.
The school was established to quell the need for students in the Northeast portion of the district. As the newest, and most populous school in D11, Doherty High has earned its reputation across the city.
The first annual car show at DHS kicked off on in 1998, serving to rack in additional publicity to our numerous engineering and tech programs, with special focus on our renowned auto department.
Ever since the debut of the show, the tradition has proven well worth the cost of running, attracting spectators from all around the state.
IED and POE classes were in high demand, and to meet students needs, we acquired 3 Makerbot 3D printers, aimed at helping our engineering students become more engaged, and better preparing them for STEM-related technology skills.
July 2014Engineering students gained access to The Project Lead the Way Curriculum, which gave them more ways to access information about engineering and STEM careers in general. PLTW teaching methods were implemented in Doherty’s tech classrooms in the school year 14-15.
“ Students take from the courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.” - PLTW founders

The newly established TSA team organized its first student project, drone building. Under the guise of Mr. Neumeyer's expertise, the team sought out to test their technical skills and learn more about Digital Electronics.
This 'co-curricular' experience garnered the club valuable experience in teamwork, collaboration, and technical research skills.,
Carrying Over the robotic team management experience from a local middle school, Adam Truex (currently an IED, POE, and Technical Drawing teacher at DHS), put together a group of interested students and chartered a VEX Robotics team.
In years follow, the team had grown and competes annually in Arvada and Winchester, Colorado.
As part of the growing business department, and student's demands to practice their business skills in the 'real world', an FBLA club was chartered at DHS.
Ever since, students have been competing at district, state, and even national levels, all with the goal in mind to earn a name for themselves and network with other business proffesionals.
In addition to our Engineering, Architecture, and Automotive technical pathways, in May of 2016, students would finally have access to an updated set of courses on Computer Science: “Computer Science Essentials”, "Intro to Computer Science", and “AP Computer Science Principles”.

The Laser engraver has proved to be enormously helpful with architecture and engineering courses here at Doherty High, as it allows students to become more knowledgeable in the use of different CAD technology and more familiar with VCarve Pro software.
August 2016The State Conference represents the growth of all of our tech programs here at Doherty High School. We take great pride in having competed at the 2018 conference and placed 2nd at webmaster.
Having collected sufficient funds through many years of fundraising efforts, 2018 was the first year our club was able to attend Denver’s conference, and each one of our TSA members last year were competing.

While the Technology Student Association here at Doherty may have a rich history, the expanse of our timeline is just the beginning. With enough funds to begin regularly attending State Conferences, we aim to make a name for ourselves on a state-wide and even national scale.
Engrained in our moddo, 'We Before Me', is the sacrifice of years worth of dedication on behalf of students, staff, and administration alike. Our excellence in technology pays homage to these causes.
